A few points of interest ... (leaving aside the fact "we" got hammered).
The game was played in November (not usually cricket playing weather). However I checked the Durham weather station data for Nov 1883 and it was a cold-ish but remarkably dry month and only a quarter of the normal November rain fell (23mm vs 88mm average).
There is either a mistype or someone can't add up - Brompton's first innings should be 15, surely?
Scorton's Brownless was clearly "Man of the Match", scoring 20 with the bat, a catch and 10 wickets!
Hat's off to Brompton's plucky Terry who remained unbeaten over 2 innings - although with only 1 run.
I may have to delve into the 1881 census to see if I can find out any more about the players - watch this space.
A match at cricket, between eleven of the Scorton club and the same number of Brompton-on-Swale club, took place on the 14th inst., at Scorton. for £ 0 aside, which terminated in favour of the former at one innings, with 33 runs to spare. The following is a statement of the game -
