Catterick Bridge Train Explosion 1944

The events of 4th Feb 1944, are are still very much within living memory and personally I really think there should be some sort of memorial or plaque near the site. I'm sure a lot of people, perhaps more recent arrivals to the village, don't appreciate what happened.

Here is what I have been able to find out relating to the deaths of Station Master Walter Gibson and Railway Clerk Nancy Richardson who are commemorated on the War Memorial ... and the other 10 people that were killed that day.

PS> I have used some quotes and information from local FaceBook groups - if anyone has more information or wants to send me anything please do and I will update the documents. Equally, if anyone has any concerns about being quoted I'm happy to remove anything.
